Jean–Henri Dunant

Strictly speaking, Dunant was one of five members of the International Committee for Relief to the Wounded, whose work led to the foundation of the Red Cross. But the committee was set up as a result of Dunant's book Un Souvenir de Solferino, which he wrote and published in order to draw attention to the suffering of soldiers wounded in the Battle of Solferino (1859).
